ImproveThis (“we,” “us,” or “our”) operates ImproveThis.ai. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information when you use our Service.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your name, email address, and authentication credentials (via Google OAuth or email/password). Passwords are securely hashed and never stored in plain text.

Person Profiles

You may create profiles for people you write to, including their name, your relationship type (e.g., colleague, friend), preferred tone, and optional notes. This data is used solely to personalize AI-generated text improvements for you.

Messages & Text Content

When you use the Service, we store the original text you submit and the AI-improved version. We also store metadata such as the writing mode used, whether the message was copied to clipboard, and timestamps. This data is used to provide your message history and to calculate your chameleon sync percentage.

Usage Data

We track your monthly improvement count to enforce plan limits and provide usage statistics on your dashboard.

Payment Information

Payment processing is handled entirely by Paddle. We do not store your credit card number, bank details, or other payment credentials. We receive from Paddle your subscription status, plan type, and billing period dates.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide the Service: Processing your text through AI models, storing your message history, and personalizing results based on person profiles.
  • To manage your account: Authentication, plan enforcement, and usage tracking.
  • To process payments: Coordinating with Paddle for Pro subscriptions.
  • To improve the Service: Aggregated, anonymized usage analytics to understand feature adoption and performance. We do not use your text content for analytics.
  • To communicate with you: Responding to support requests and sending essential account notifications.

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate ImproveThis.ai:

  • Convex: Our backend database and server infrastructure. Your account data, person profiles, messages, and usage records are stored on Convex's servers.
  • Google Gemini (primary) & OpenAI (fallback): Your submitted text is sent to these AI providers for processing. We send only the text content, writing mode, and person profile context (tone and relationship type) — not your name, email, or other personal identifiers. These providers process your text in accordance with their respective privacy policies and data processing agreements.
  • Paddle: Handles all payment processing for Pro subscriptions. Paddle collects and processes your payment information under their own privacy policy.
  • Vercel: Hosts our web application. Standard web server logs (IP address, browser type, access times) may be collected by Vercel.

5. Data Retention

  • Free plan: Message history is retained for 7 days, after which it is automatically deleted.
  • Pro plan: Full message history is retained for the duration of your subscription.
  • Account deletion: When you delete your account, all associated data (profiles, messages, usage records) is permanently deleted.

We do not retain your text content after it has been processed by AI providers. AI providers may have their own retention policies, which are governed by their respective terms.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure authentication, and access controls. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. AI Training

We do not use your submitted text, improved results, or person profile data to train AI models. Your content is processed by third-party AI providers solely to generate improvements in real time. We do not build or fine-tune any models on user data.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Correct inaccurate data
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Export your data in a portable format
  • Object to certain processing activities

9. Children's Privacy

The Service is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Cookies

We use essential cookies for authentication and session management. We do not use advertising or third-party tracking cookies. No cookie consent banner is needed as we only use strictly necessary cookies.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by posting the updated policy on the Service with a new “Last updated” date. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
